Spring has landed with a whole lot of sunshine this year and I've been making the most of it by working in the vegetable garden over the last few days. There's been a lot of digging, weeding, soil turning over and then a visit to the local plant store for some vegetables to plant.
When I planted these broad bean seeds I felt a bit like Jack (from Jack & the beanstalk), but sadly no giant beanstalk grew overnight. Can you believe it!?
I also added a little table inside the greenhouse - perfect for plonking down all my bits and pieces, instead of using the ground. This wee table was constructed in about 10 minutes many years ago for Bella's backyard soup making era. Goodness, she was the best backyard soup maker I have ever known - so many flavours were dreamt up on that table and many of them with extra sprinkles of sand salt on top. The years just go too quickly.
So far there are just 3 tomato plants inside the greenhouse. I'll definitely be adding two more, a cucumber plant and maybe a chilli plant too.
Now I just need some of those cute vegetable markers to mark out which row is which in the veggie patch!
We also had to trim down quite large portion of a tree that was getting a little too close to our wood fired oven. During our regular winter roast cooking, we would watch carefully as some of the tree branches were starting to singe from the chimney heat, but with summer around the corner it was definitely time for a trim down. Our weekend project will now be a trip to the tip!
I still have lots more to plant out too, but that will have to wait until later in the week now.
Yours in happy vegetables this summer,
