Have you started any of your Christmas making yet? I've actually been really good this year and written out my gift making list early, plus I've already ticked off a couple of things, which feels really good! This year I'd like to knit a few presents, which sounds a bit dorky (I think) when you tell people that you're knitting gifts. There's often a slight grimace on their face and then they start conjuring up images of knitted toilet roll holder dolls. But, there are some really awesome patterns out there these days, it's just a matter of tracking them down and matching the pattern with some nice yarn. Knitting and crocheting have definitely become cool again!
One pattern on my list for this year, was a rabbit (or two) for some little people I know, using the gorgeous Little Cotton Rabbit pattern by Julie Williams. Julie's patterns are just beautiful and from what I'd read online, very comprehensive and easy to follow. Plus, there are lots of designs to choose from, from rabbits to elephants to mice and monkeys!
For the yarn, I found a delicious shade of brown in Patons Cotton Blend, 8 ply, from Spotlight. I'm using this cotton for my Weekend in Stockholm blanket and it's super lovely, so I knew it would knit up well for the rabbit. All good rabbits need clothes, so I bought some Bella Baby Cotton Silk in 4 ply for this, also from Spotlight.
Incase you're thinking of making your own sweet rabbit, all of the pieces are knitted flat, which makes for some very easy knitting. The sewing up and stuffing takes quite a while though, probably as long as the actual knitting part - I think this bunny took me around 12-13 hours to make, if I added up all of my knitting and stitching time together.
It feels really great to be able to tick off a gift from my list, now I just need to keep on with everything else that's on the list and not get side tracked - which we all know is far too easy to do! I'm also working on a few hedgehogs for our Operation Christmas Child boxes this year, so I'll share those soon.
Wishing you all a warm and cosy weekend, as it's pretty freezing (again) down here in Tasmania. We've been a bit out of sorts with sickness this week, so we're planning to rest up and keep toasty warm this weekend. I'm sure they'll be a bit of knitting (for me) too. xx
P.S. I was gifted a Spotlight voucher recently and while I was under no obligation to blog about this, I wanted to share my rabbit with you - the yarns were chosen and bought with part of my voucher.
